ReThink Behavioral Software

The educational ReThink software detects offensive content before it is sent by a user and instantaneously prompts the user to pause, review, and rethink (“Are you sure you want to say this?”). In doing so, it creates “friction” in the user’s digital experience and gives users, especially youth, who are prone to making poor decisions in the heat-of-the-moment, a chance to carefully consider the consequences of their actions. Often, this leads young users to reconsider their words and instead say something that is more positive and not hurtful/rude.

ReThink

The ReThink software is platform agnostic, i.e., it works across all digital platforms, from email to social media, to detect offensive content. Currently, the software works with text, but is in development for detection of offensive images and videos (e.g., offensive memes), too. Note that the software complies with US law and all legal requirements regarding the collection, storage, and use of user (including minors’) data. When distributing the ReThink software, ReThink Citizens oversees the installation and implementation of the software and may offer limited technology support as well, assisting schools, educational communities, parents, or other individuals using/supporting use of the software. Ultimately, by prompting users to “rethink” online hate, the ReThink software not only takes on cyberbullying in-the-moment, it ultimately teaches young users to critically reflect on the impact their words have on others. In doing so, it makes conscious, thoughtful decision-making a habit, with the potential for life-long positive impact. Note that the software will be implemented on users’ devices and primarily overseen by clients (e.g., schools). It can be used year-round (and in perpetuity).
