What Is The ReThink Technology?

For so many digital natives, the internet can feel ephemeral, a space where what they say and do…doesn’t really matter. This desensitization is only exacerbated by the fact that, at the very age that they receive their first phone, young people’s brains are still developing the capacity to control their impulses and think through the consequences of their decisions. As a 13-year-old, anti-hate activist and ReThink Founder and CEO Trisha Prabhu hypothesized that this had created the perfect storm, enabling youth to say hurtful, harassing things online that they would never say in person. Trisha wondered: what if she gave young users a chance to “hit the brakes,” a moment of friction to pause, review, and rethink what they were about to say?

ReThink™ was born. This patented, innovative technology proactively detects offensive digital content and gives users a chance to reconsider posting it (“Are you sure you want to say that?”). Trisha’s research, which she conducted when was just 13 years old, and which was acclaimed by Google, Harvard and MIT, finds that over 93% of the time, ReThink stops online hate before any damage is done.

Today, ReThink’s technology (named one of Google Play’s Most Innovative Apps) has been shared with youth worldwide, from the UK to Lebanon. One message at a time, ReThink is proactively tackling cyberbullying and teaching youth crucial online and offline decision-making skills.

How We Work With Partners

ReThink Citizens is committed to making ReThink’s offerings, including the ReThink technology, available to historically underserved communities for free. We collaborate with local community organizations and educational institutions that serve children of color, LGBTQIA+ youth, low-income youth, youth in rural communities, and/or otherwise under-resourced youth.

We believe in collaborative partnerships, working alongside our partners to best serve their communities. We know that you know your context best, and we’ll work with you to implement the ReThink technology where it will have the most impact. That might mean designing a joint campaign to roll out the ReThink technology onto students’ personal devices; or, it may mean installing the ReThink technology on an organization/institution’s Chromebooks. Either way, we’re eager to ReThink hate with you.
