Our Mission
ReThink Citizens is a youth-led nonprofit with the mission of tackling cyberbullying and redefining digital social connection to be more kind, intentional and inclusive. By equipping today’s youth with technology and educational resources that encourage them to rethink online hate–and offering them the tools and community that they need to instead leverage the internet for good–ReThink Citizens is building a more supportive, inclusive digital ecosystem in real time.
Inspiration
ReThink Citizens Founder and President Trisha Prabhu‘s journey to tackle cyberbullying first began a decade ago, when, as a 15-year-old, she launched ReThink, a global movement with the mission of eradicating online hate and redefining digital culture to be more positive. In 10 years, ReThink has become a rallying cry to reclaim our humanity online: today, ReThink’s technology (named one of Google Play’s Most Innovative Apps), educational materials, and anti-cyberbullying advocacy have been shared with youth worldwide, from the UK to Lebanon.
Witnessing this profound impact, Trisha became deeply committed to ensuring that every young person had the opportunity to be part of the ReThink movement. She knew that historically marginalized communities are often left out of transformative social change efforts, despite being the most affected by pressing social issues. Online safety is no exception: historically vulnerable groups are disproportionately targeted online, often because of their identity or background.
Trisha was also driven to cultivate a more dynamic, supportive ecosystem for young digital changemakers. Over the years, she had encountered countless talented young people with innovative ideas to address digital harms—but who lacked the network, community, and resources to turn those ideas into action. Trisha was determined to change that.
And so, in 2023, Trisha launched ReThink Citizens, the non-profit arm of ReThink. ReThink Citizens is dedicated to making ReThink’s offerings available to historically underserved youth across the United States for free, with the goal of inspiring every young digital citizen to become a “ReThink citizen.” ReThink Citizens also aims to support and enable today’s young people to create the digital world that they want to live in, whether by empowering youth with ideas to build a better internet, or by equipping them to become champions for online safety education in their communities.
